Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day!

It's amazing what can be done with scraps.  I started this mini crazy quilt in June 2020, using left over scraps from other patriotic projects.  I'm always surprised just how far small pieces of fabric go.  I still have lots of those left-over pieces. I don't know how I will use them. Hopefully they will turn out as nice as this mini crazy quilt

Here are the closeups of the four quarters and the center Butterfly

This project came together quickly once I began working on it again. It was also a lot of fun.

I hope your 4th of July is very enjoyable!

Remember to do some stitching every day!

Until next time,

Patriotically Yours,

Hello, February!

My February Tiered Tray

I had fun decorating my tiered tray with Valentine decorations. For ideas I watched several YouTube videos.  To keep the cost down I shopped my local Dollar Tree and picked up several unpainted wood items, including the tray with heart shaped cut outs, a mini wood crate, 2 small bird houses, and the word, 'cute" sign.

The Valentines' decorations I purchased included glittered heart picks, red and pink, small glittered red hearts, pink foam roses, tiny painted (red, pink and gold) wood heart picks, and small wood rose cut outs.  The red mug also came from the Dollar Tree.

A small bird house and a XOXO sign tucked in on the bottom tier

Red Glittered Hearts in an antique half pint jar.

The picket fence and ladder are made from craft sticks. I used a small miter box to cut the fence pieces.  Both fence and ladder are painted with Antique White paint.

The little berry wreaths came from my box of Christmas floral supplies. They were 12" stems I twisted into the small wreaths.

All of the silk roses came from my stash of silk flowers.  The small flowerpots are 2.5" terra cotta pots, I painted them pink.  They were purchased from Amazon.

I purchased several bead garlands from Walmart's Christmas Clerance sale. I got six gray and white garlands for $3.00 each.  To make my red, pink and white bead garland, I disassembled one of the bead garlands and painted over the gray beads with pink and red paint for the pink and red beads.  I attached a flower embellished wood heart at one end of my garland and made a tassel with a red checked ribbon for the other end. There is another tiny flower embellished wood heart on the base tier.

Mr. B cut out wood rectangles, squares and house shapes for me.  I created
a few painted signs from them.

The fabric hearts are made of cotton ticking and wool felt. Behind the small cotton and felt hearts is a larger heart with a heart shaped crocheted heart doily. Behind the red felt heart is an embroidered heart pincushion.  It is a part of my "Forever in My Heart" pattern, which can be purchased from my Etsy Shop.    The stitchery is behind the tiered tray, on the right side.

I also stitched up a little felt Valentine Envelope. The pattern is from Moochioochi. Here is the link to the free pattern: 5 EASY & CUTE DIY Handmade Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Family, Friends, Him/Her – Felt Crafts 💖🥰 - YouTube

Welcome to Art by KathyLynn

 Hello and Welcome!

Getting here has been a journey, indeed! I am happy we all here and I can now share the projects I worked on in November and December. Mr. B and I have done a bit of traveling. We traveled to Colorado, to visit our youngest son and his family, in November.  We spent Christmas in Eastern Washington to celebrate the Holiday with our parents.

Here are a few things I created for gifts:

I made this pillow for my youngest son's birthday. He loves Halloween. The applique pieces were cut out with my Cricut Maker. I machine appliqued the pillow top.

I stitched a few beads on this pillow.  The moon is outlined with silver lined glass beads and black Bicorne beads are sewn onto the tips of the fence posts and the peak of the house.

I finished this October Mini Quilt in late Fall 2021.

This sweet Raggedy Ann sitting on a cake and holding a Cupcake was made for my daughter-in-law's birthday in November.

Here is a sister to the Raggedy Ann. She is holding a strawberry and sitting on a cupcake.

This pair of Snow Angels were made for Christmas gifts. The top angel's dress has snowflakes on her dress.
This Snow Angel's dress has tiny white stripes.  Both dresses are trimmed with vintage lace, The wings cut were from a vintage chenille bedspread, I purchased on Ebay several years ago.

This handsome snowfella stands four feet tall and is adorned with a wreath and a nest for feathered friends.  His coat is decorated with snowflake buttons. The pine trees and cabin are painted wood cutouts.  Mr. B, drilled holes into the cutouts turning them into large buttons, which have been sewn onto the coat.  His head is a large floral pick from Hobby Lobby, purchased two years ago.  I stitched the neck of the coat to the base of the head using the Ladder Stitch. It was Mr. B's idea to use the purchased head.  What a good idea! It saved me several hours as I was having troubles with the directions for the head.  What I came up with didn't resemble a snowman's head at all!  Do you ever have a project's directions not turn out right?  I hate it when that happens. It messes everything up.

We have exciting plans for 2022.  We will be starting a YouTube Channel.  I received all the light equipment for my birthday.  We will let you know when we go live.

Until next time,
Remember to take time to do a little stitching every day,

Kathy
